Zach Parise ended a five-game goal drought on a rare mistake by goalie Jonathan Quick, and Martin Brodeur stopped 25 shots to help the Devils end the Kings' 10-game postseason winning streak on the road and 12-game run over the past two years, both NHL records.

he Stanley Cup playoffs have become somewhat of a blur for the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings.

It seemed like yesterday that the regular season came to an end and the teams looked forward with apprehension to meeting Florida and Vancouver in the opening round, respectively.

sensex : result on Friday, June 8th 2012, 01:39 PM

Snapping a four-day gaining streak, a benchmark index for Indian equities markets was trading 0.52 percent down Friday afternoon due to profit booking in banking, consumer durables and automobile stocks.

The weakness of the rupee also affected market sentiments. It weakened by 21 paise to 55.15 against the dollar.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), was ruling at 16,562.57 points - 86.48 points or 0.52 percent down from its previous close at 16,649.05 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 16,625.71 points and low of 16,530.81 points in the intra-day trade.

The banking index was down by 107.80 points, the consumer durable index by 57.07 points and automobile index by 75.42 points.

Major Sensex losers included ONGC, down 2.11 percent at Rs.257.30; Infosys, down 2.04 percent at Rs.2,403; ICICI Bank, down 1.58 percent at Rs.816.80; Maruti Suzuki, down 1.55 percent at Rs.1,125.80 and Bajaj Auto, down 1.20 percent at Rs.1,526.50.

Major Sensex gainers included Sterlite Inds, up 2.88 percent at Rs.100; Hindustan Unilever, up 1.46 percent at Rs.428.75; Gail India, up 0.82 percent at Rs.324.50; Larsen and Toubro, up 0.56 percent at Rs.1284; BHEL, up 0.44 percent at Rs.218.75.

union rags : Won the Belmont Stakes

The Bob Baffert-trained Paynter got out to an early lead while Union Rags started around 5th out of the gate.

Jockey John Velazquez came through for owner Phyllis Wyeth though, pushing Union Rags through on the inside rail on the home stretch finishing just ahead of Paynter.

This makes the third second place finish for Baffert in the 2012 Triple Crown.

Union Rags finished in 2:30.42.

Paynter paid $5.10 and $3.90

The Big 3 were HUGE, contributing mightily for the Heat as they came back from 11 down to beat the Celtics.

Dimple Yadav elected to Lok Sabha : 'unopposed' elections

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav was Saturday declared elected unopposed to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj constituency, officials said.

Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Dimple Yadav has been formally declared elected unopposed in the Kannauj byelection.


The district magistrate, who is also returning officer, made the announcement after 3 pm, the deadline for withdrawal of candidature.

Dimple is wife of chief minister Akhilesh Yadavand daughter-in-law of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The seat had fallen vacant after resignation of Akhilesh who took over as chief minister of the state in March earlier this year. No political party had fielded candidate against Dimple.

Two independent candidates withdrew their nominations on Friday, paving for unopposed election of Dimple.
