BCCI bans five players targeted for corruption,BCCI declare corrupted cricketer, bad news for cricket future

(Reuters) - The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned one uncapped cricketer for life on Saturday and handed out lesser punishments to four others for involvement in corruption in domestic cricket.

The five uncapped Indian cricketers were provisionally suspended last month following allegations of corruption, made by a local television channel.

Footage from India TV appeared to show one cricketer negotiating a fee for bowling a no-ball, while another said he received under-the-table payments above his contracted fee.

A three-member disciplinary committee decided to ban fast bowler TP Sudhindra from all cricketing activities for life after reading a report and hearing the cricketers' defence.

"The committee held Sudhindra guilty of actually receiving a consideration to spot-fix in a domestic cricket match, and hence imposed exemplary penalty on him," a BCCI statement said.

Paceman Shalabh Srivastava, who played in the IPL for the Punjab franchise, was banned for five years.

"Shalabh Srivastava was held guilty of agreeing to fix a match and negotiate terms for the same, even though no actual match-fixing or spot fixing took place," the statement said.

Mohnish Mishra, Amit Yadav and Abhinav Bali were each handed one-year bans.

"The three players, through loose talk and unsubstantiated bragging, brought the game into disrepute, and hence, have been held guilty of the lesser offence," the BCCI added.

Last year, Pakistan players Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were jailed in Britain for their role in a spot-fixing scandal relating to a test match against England at Lord's in August 2010.

The International Cricket Council subsequently banned the three players for a minimum of five years.

Yuvraj Singh :in Sri Lanka World Twenty20 is my target, upcoming t20 for india,

BANGALORE: Raising the possibility of a return to international cricket at the World Twenty20, dashing all-rounder Yuvraj Singh resumed his fitness drills at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore on Monday.

Yuvraj, who was at the NCA a fortnight ago for a brief session, said his body was regaining strength as his rehabilitation progressed.

"Feeling good. My body will become stronger stage by stage.

World Twenty20 is my target. Hopefully I can be ready a little before that," said India's World Cup hero, who is recovering after undergoing treatment for cancer in the United States.

Yuvraj may play in pre-season domestic tournaments in the southern states.

"I have to see the schedule.

May be in August, I should play a few tournaments down south. I am not sure about the dates so I have to check,"
said the 30-year-old who has not appeared in any form of the game since last November when he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

The Shafi Darashah Trophy in Bangalore, Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Chennai and Moin ud Dowla Gold Cup in Hyderabad are the three tournaments scheduled to be played in the next three months.

With the World T20 starting scheduled between September 18 and October 7 in Sri Lanka, Yuvraj is not in a rush but wants to be 100 per cent fit before resuming international cricket.

"I will be in NCA for a while now.

I want to come back and play for India, that's my goal. It's not very easy on the body.

I have gone through a lot and my body has gone through a lot of shock. People are expecting me to come back very quickly, but I don't want to rush," said the left-hander.

No IPL impact on theatre occupancy: PVR Cinemas

ipl SEASON 5
ipl SEASON 5
New Delhi: Movie occupancy has been stronger in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2012-13 than earlier years despite the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pramod Arora, PVR Cinemas president and CEO told NDTV Profit.
According to him, the World Cup last year affected occupancy as movie producers were doubtful about releasing films during a major cricket event. However, this is not the trend this year, he said.
"An IPL cannot compete with a world cup, which had an impact on occupancy," Arora said.
In the first few seasons of IPL, movie producers avoided to release movies during cricket season, which saw great popularity among masses. "Only small films came through last year," Arora said.
But, IPL viewership seems to be on a wane. According to Tam Media Research, Television Viewer Ratings (TVR) were down 18.7 per in the first six games, an average TVR of 3.76, as compared to 4.63 last season.
The trend has not gone unnoticed with the film industry which is releasing a lot more big-ticket films this year. Moreover, with BCCI not releasing rights for screening matches live in movie halls, IPL is not taking up screen time. "Now IPL impact has stabilized," Arora said.
According to PVR, the movie pipeline is also strong this year. "Most of the Hollywood franchisees are going to be released like Batman, and there are some good Hindi movies too," he said. However, analysts expect that occupancy rate is likely to be slower in the January-March quarter on account of exams.
Shares of PVR are trading over 2 per cent higher in early morning trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange while the BSE Sensex index is down 0.08 per cent.
In the last three months, it share price rose 10.5 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange. In comparison, the broader BSE Sensex gained 4.5 per cent for the same period.
