i ll have another belmont :Bid Is Over During Dan Patrick Show

Despite heavy anticipation that horse racing would have its first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978,

I'll Have Another is not running the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

During an interview on the "Dan Patrick Show" on Friday, trainer Doug O'Neill broke the news.

The three-year-old colt owned by Reddam Racing and trained by O'Neill notched thrilling wins at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes and was the early favorite at the Belmont Stakes.

The surprise scratch is the result of an injury, with O'Neill telling the Dan Patrick Show that the horse "has the start of some tendonitis in the left front leg.”

O'Neill went on to reveal that he doesn't expect the horse to race again.

"The horse is sound and happy, but it's not worth it," O'Neill would later tell The Associated Press.

The New York Racing Association quickly scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m. on Friday. During the press conference held at Belmont Park, it was announced that I'll Have Another is retired from racing.

union rags : Won the Belmont Stakes

The Bob Baffert-trained Paynter got out to an early lead while Union Rags started around 5th out of the gate.

Jockey John Velazquez came through for owner Phyllis Wyeth though, pushing Union Rags through on the inside rail on the home stretch finishing just ahead of Paynter.

This makes the third second place finish for Baffert in the 2012 Triple Crown.

Union Rags finished in 2:30.42.

Union Rags paid $7.50, $4.20, and $3.40
Paynter paid $5.10 and $3.90
Atigun paid $10.60

triple crown - Reddam, Baffert , and bids

Owner J. Paul Reddam and jockey Mario Gutierrez were on hand at Belmont Park Thursday morning as Triple Crown candidate I'll Have Another galloped around the 1 1/2-mile oval, with the only difference in his routine being that he departed the Belmont Stakes barn for the first time.

"He settled right in like we thought he would," trainer Doug O'Neill reported. "He had a really good day of training today. He had really good energy and he cooled out really well, so we're very happy with where we are two days out."

"I bet against War Emblem, but I bet Medaglia d'Oro, so I lost anyway," he said of the 2002 Belmont, won by 70-1 longshot Sarava.
