Apple 2012: Apple MacBook Pro , Retina Display

Price as reviewed $2,199
Processor 2.3GHz Intel Core i7-3610QM
Memory 8GB, 1600MHz DDR3
Hard drive 256GB SSD
Chipset Intel HM77
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M / Intel HD 4000
Operating system OS X Lion 10.7.4
Dimensions (WD) 14.1 x 9.7 inches
Height 0.7 inch
Screen size (diagonal) 15.4 inches
System weight / Weight with AC adapter 4.6/5.4 pounds
Category Midsize

Apple MacBook Pro : Retina Display

The good:

The unprecedented high-resolution screen on the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display

makes images -- even simple text -- look beautifully clear. Despite a redesigned,

lightweight body, the powerful components, including an Nvidia GPU, compare well to recent high-end desktop replacements.

Overdue new ports,

including USB 3.0 and HDMI, are welcome.

The bad: With a $2,199 entry-level price tag, the MacBook Pro with Retina Display costs more than the typical American mortgage.

The lack of onboard Ethernet jack, FireWire, or an optical drive can be inconvenient at times.

Despite being thinner and lighter, it's not as travel-friendly as a true ultrabook or MacBook Air.

The bottom line: The newly redesigned MacBook Pro with Retina Display combines an amazing screen with just enough of the MacBook Air design to feel like a new animal, and to take its place as the best of the current MacBook breed.

MSRP: $2,199.00

Low Price: $2,194.00

Kevin Durant : NBA Finals going on....

according to ...

sportsillustrated.cnn.com

Kevin Durant

These NBA Finals have quickly morphed into a Kevin Durant vs.

LeBron James debate, which was natural and not surprising. Durant has reached the level where people can't help it -- they want to compare him to the best in the game.

Durant's Oklahoma City teammates do it too. They will tell him: You're right there with Kobe. You're as good as LeBron.

And he says: "No, I'm not."

"That's how he is, he is very humble," said Dexter Pittman of the Heat.

"Kevin is one of the most humble guys I've ever met. He's not flashy.

You can't even tell that he's in the NBA. He doesn't wear designer clothes.

He is always wearing a hat, backpack and shorts. That's how he is. Simple."

Whichever God is responsible for handing out basketball talents really outdid Himself with LeBron James. Nobody has ever had a hoops package quite like him.

He has the size of some of the best power forwards, the skill of some of the best shooters, the passing skills of an All-Star point guard,

and athleticism that rivals anybody in the history of the game. The package comes with a single burden: Everybody has seen it from the time James was in high school.

A French Open 2012 : Grand Slam for Sharapova

according to ,.......

the newyork times.....Tennis

Ever since shoulder surgery nearly forced Maria Sharapova into early retirement, she occupied an odd, conflicted space in both tennis and the wider world of sports.

She remained among the most marketable female athletes on the planet, tall and blond and famous, a superstar in every sense except the most important one.

That recent gap between her game and her fame closed considerably on Saturday, closed by virtue of another one-sided affair that sent Sharapova knees first onto the clay, then bounding into the stands, where she kissed not one but two babies.

After Sharapova dismantled Sara Errani of Italy, 6-3, 6-2, she held aloft the silver French Open championship trophy, for her the most elusive of the major championships.

For Sharapova, the triumph at once completed a career Grand Slam and her comeback to the highest level of her sport,

two notions that seemed improbable as recently as two years ago. After all the millions earned and tournaments won and magazine covers graced,

Sharapova said she knew the instant her knees hit clay Saturday that this title meant more to her than any other.

“It’s the most unique moment I’ve experienced in my career,” she said. “I never thought I would have that.”

It can be hard to believe that Sharapova is 25 years old now, eight years removed from the Wimbledon triumph at 17 that announced her prodigious talent,

four years removed from the shoulder surgery that nearly prematurely buried it.

Sharapova has been praised and dismissed, lauded and ridiculed, and she swore Saturday that, through all that, she never listened to any voice except her own.

IIT Kanpur has decided to conduct JEE type entrance exam for IIT Kanpur separately.

IIT Kanpur has decided to conduct JEE type entrance exam for IIT Kanpur separately.
in 2012

While this should send a strong message against top-down approach, there are some points as per Ordinance 3.2 itself

(refer http://www.iitk.ac.in/infocell/iitk/newhtml/ordinances_03.pdf for point 1 below) & IIT Act

(refer http://www.iitm.ac.in/downloads/RTI/Act.pdf for points

2, 3, 4 & 5 below)

worth considering,

IIT Kanpur Senate resolution 1.b dated June 8, 2012 says, “In view of the Senate resolution adopted in its 2011-12/9th meeting held on April 10, 2012, invoking Ordinance

3.2 the Senate resolves that IIT Kanpur will conduct the entrance examination for admissions to its undergraduate programmes in 2013”. However, as per Ordinance 3.2,

“The Admission of Indian Nationals to the B. Tech., B. Tech.-M. Tech.

(Dual Degree)and M.Sc. (Integrated) Programmes shall be made once a year on the basis of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted jointly by all the IITs”.

If Ordinance 3.2 says that JEE is to be conducted jointly by all IITs, it is not clear how can the Senate of a particular IIT decide to conduct entrance examination for its own institute?

As per 13.1, the board has the power to review the acts of the Senate.
As per 13.2.e, the board of the institute can cancel or modify ordinances. (Note: As per 11.e, the board will have two professors of the Institute, to be nominated by the Senate besides other people as mentioned in 11.a, 11.b, 11.c & 11.d.)

As per 9.3, the President of India may take such action and issue such directions as he* considers necessary in respect of any of the matters dealt with in the report (refer 9.2) and the Institute shall be bound to comply with such directions. As per 33.2.e, Council can, “Advise” the President of India in respect of any function to be performed by him* under this Act.

As per 33.2.a & 33.2.b, the Council itself has some powers especially with regards to laying down policy in the current context.

Pranab Mukherjee: Government choose for president for india 2012...

FM Pranab Mukherjee had rejected the S&P report that cautioned that India could lose investment grade rating.

On Tuesday, he once again stuck to his standard line that the industrial output data was "disappointing" and the government would have to take steps to revive sentiment.

Mukherjee also told bankers that the government was taking several measures to kick-start the economy.

"The government is committed to ensure faster project clearances, attracting new investments, both domestic and foreign, fixing regulatory issues etc to boost investors' confidence. Fiscal management is also a high priority.

Regular tariff revisions and focusing of subsidies to the needy shall have to be given necessary attention. All of this, I am sure, will revive growth in the economy."

Group 4 reject but not ignore ....

Group 4 reject but not ignore ....

GROUP 4 might have bowed out of Tier 2 Country Championship competition but it was far from embarrassed by Friday night’s 34-18 loss to Group 3 in Forster and Group 4 officials believe they can only improve if they keep the core of talented young players together.

Group 4 secretary and selector Mick Schmiedel thought the Tim O’Brien-coached side was heading to victory at one stage of Friday night’s qualifying final at Harry Elliot Oval, Forster.

“We led 12-10 at half-time,” Schmiedel said.

“I thought we’d dominated in the period before half-time and were going well in the second half but five minutes into the second half and one of their players suffered a broken leg.

“We had to wait for about 30 minutes for an ambulance and after that Group 3 came back very strongly.

“They were motivated and scored three quick tries straight away.”

“While they dominated we struggled a bit.

“But we did play some good

football.

“They had a good side and we mixed it with them – we weren’t embarrassed.

“And we do have a young squad.

“Jake Rumsby, Jerrod See, Beau White, Trent Hilton and Matty Nean are all in the 18 to 23 age bracket.

“If we can hang onto all the good young kids plus with older players such as Brendan Hunt, Brenton Cochrane and Shaun Ferguson we will always be competitive at this level.”

He thought Narrabri backrower Rumsby was outstanding.

“He was huge for us,” he said.

“He played 70 minutes as well and when he did come off was ready to go back on five minutes later,” he said.

“Matty Nean was a smidgin behind him and Tim Coombes made some big charges.

“He and Scotty Rolls had some charges up the middle.”

Schmiedel believes Group 3 will be a major threat now in the Tier 2 Country Championship semi-finals where it joins Groups 7, 11 and 20.

iifa award 2012....coming soon..

celebrities like Shahid Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Bipasha Basu, Abhay Deol and Yuvraj Singh were leaving for Singapore for the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2012,

Bigg Boss lady Pooja Misrra smiled and showed her middle finger at the airport in Mumbai, causing embarrassment.

Now, even as the IIFA Awards conclude, there seems to be no end to the embarrassment Misrra’s lewd gesture began.

While this year, Bollywood A-listers Bachchans and Khans have been missing from the much-hyped awards; long rambling speeches, have further contributed in IIFA 2012 turning out to be a lukewarm affair, reports Mid-Day.

For starters, many stars strangely decided to try out Tamil in their announcements. Ranbir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor accidentally ended up wearing each other’s jackets throughout their performance at the awards night.

Shatrughan Sinha kept talking about himself and his own upcoming film. He then addressed Rekha her as “the OLD, gold, bold and beautiful Rekha,” while she didn’t know where to look, states the report.

mom.gov.sg : Stricter rules for window cleaning through maid

mom.gov.sg...

Stricter rules for window cleaning by maids

From today, employers of FDWs shall not allow their maids to clean the exteriors of windows except where two conditions are met.

First, the employer or an adult representative of the employer must be physically present to supervise the FDW.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) today announced stricter rules for window cleaning by foreign domestic workers (FDW).

These rules will apply to all homes, except for those whose windows are at the ground floor or along common corridors.

Failure to comply with these tightened requirements constitutes a breach of the Employment of Foreign Manpower (Work Passes) Regulations.

Employers who fail to comply may be prosecuted and permanently barred from hiring a maid.
