35,000 recruited graduates of Sri Lanka not given any duties

Jun 29, Colombo: The unemployed graduates in Sri Lanka say that 35,000 graduates who have already been recruited by the government have not been given any duties.

The Combined Association of Unemployed Graduates (CAUG) say the government has also restricted the employment of graduates up to a particular year.

CAUG in a statement notes that only those who had graduated before December 31, 2009 have been recruited by the government.

The Association points out that such a time restriction has not been mentioned in the advertisement calling on graduates to send applications.

According to CAUG, unemployed graduates face numerous difficulties at interviews conducted at district secretariats for the recruitment of graduate trainees.

However, the Association has called on the government not to intimidate graduates into taking part in election campaigns with the promise of granting employment to them.

Narendra Modi:Gujarat Police most tech-savvy in India: recruitment for police

Vadodara: The Gujarat government has recruited 26,000 persons into the police force in various cadres and also provided over 2.5 lakh jobs in the last seven years.

In all, three lakh people were employed in different Government jobs since 2005 and the entire recruitment process was "transparent", Chief Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday.

"Earlier, there used to be a lot of complaints about police recruitment, but things have changed now. These 26,000 persons, including those from poor families, were recruited in a transparent manner," he said in Vadodara.

Modi was speaking at the passing-out parade of Lok Rakshak Police personnel at the Police Training School in Vadodara.

"Gujarat Police is the most educated and tech-savvy force in the country today. It is mandatory to learn computer for every one joining the police force," the CM added.

Training modules are being overhauled for all cadres at the police training institutes in the state to make the force more professional, Modi maintained.

Modi took salute at the parade of 419 trainees, including women. Of these trainees, 41 are post-graduates while 169 are graduates.

He said a large number of women are joining the police force which is a welcome development.

On the occasion, Modi presented President's police medals to 30 personnel, including DGP Chitranjan Singh.

After Tuesday's induction, a total of 892 Lok Rakshak jawans have joined Gujarat Police in the last two days.

KARACHI: Quota of women for recruitment in government jobs has been enhanced to 25 per cent from existing five per cent in the Sindh budget for the fiscal year 2012-13. 

This was announced by Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in his speech for Sindh Budget 2012-13, in the Sindh Assembly here Monday. 

He said women empowerment was very close to the heart of our visionary leader Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and she had thae credit for pushing through historic initiatives to lessen the plight of women.

 He said the PPP-led government at the centre as well as in the province is following her footsteps by putting women empowerment at the centre of the agenda as we stand firm in our belief that there is no tool for development more effective than empowerment of women. Shah said that a revolving fund has been created to provide legal aid to poor women,

 who otherwise would not have access or resources to legal support. 

Similarly, a revolving fund has been created for providing relief to the women/ juvenile prisoners, he added. He said the skill training in various trades is being imparted to reduce poverty. 

Realising the emancipation of women, and for their empowerment, the government is striving to create a conducive environment for strong mothers, who guarantee a strong nation, he added. app

Hotel staff complained of uneasiness, could be food poisoning’

In an apparent case of food poisoning, nearly 70 employees of the five-star Shangri La Eros Hotel in Lutyens’ Delhi took ill on Wednesday afternoon after having lunch from the hotel’s staff canteen. As the employees started complaining of uneasiness and stomach pain and many of them began vomiting they were rushed to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment.

“It appears to be a case of food poisoning and we administered preliminary treatment to the patients at the hospital’s emergency unit and later shifted them to the wards. We got over 50 patients from the hotel this afternoon with symptoms of food poisoning. The patients told us that the symptoms were noticed after they consumed food and drinks at the hotel’s staff canteen. None of the patients is serious and their condition is stable. While we have discharged a majority of them after treatment, doctors have kept a few under observation and they too will be discharged soon,” said hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. T.S. Sidhu.

According to the hospital administration, the employees complained of uneasiness after having lunch at the canteen of the hotel at around 4 p.m. “Late afternoon more than 70 colleagues reported feeling unwell. The hotel's in-house doctor immediately attended to them and subsequently, some were sent to RML Hospital for further medical assistance. The hotel is now extending its fullest cooperation with the health authorities to determine the cause and will conduct an internal investigation as well,” noted a release from Shangri La’s Eros Hotel.

The hotel authorities added that “the management team is closely monitoring the health status of the colleagues and will render any required assistance during this time”.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has registered a case under Section 337 of the Indian Penal Code for causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others. “In all, 54 hotel staffers were taken to hospital. All of them are stated to be out of danger. Prima facie, it is a case of food poisoning,” said a police officer.

Hotel employees, who were affected by food poisoning, said most of them felt uneasy after consuming food and drinks at the hotel and then complained to the administration about it. “Later some employees started vomiting and others complained of extreme cramps which forced the hotel administration into action,” said an employee at the hotel who was discharged after treatment from the hospital.
