The sixth Summit of the Americas will be held at Cartagena, Colombia, on 14 and 15 April 2012.[1] The central theme of the summit is "Connecting the Americas: Partners for Prosperity."[2] The host president Juan Manuel Santos said of the expectations for the summit that "if the United States realises its long-term strategic interests are not in Afghanistan or Pakistan, but in Latin America...there will be great results."

The scandal marks a major black eye for the White House — and threatened to overshadow Obama’s economic and trade agenda at the Summit of the Americas.
