Eadweard J. Muybridge Animated Horse

The doodle depicts a running horse, and it probably looks quite familiar to all but the youngest of our readers. It was created by British photographer Eadweard Muybridge, who would have been celebrating his 182nd birthday today.
Muybridge’s status as “father” of the motion picture came about not with some great futuristic vision. Rather, the goal was to settle an argument about whether all four of a horse’s hooves are ever off the ground at the same time while trotting.
