By now you’ve all heard the horrific story of the naked Miami man who mauled another naked man’s face with his bare teeth.
According to Miami law enforcement officials, the cannibal might have been under the influence of common household “bath salts” when he ate the flesh of an unidentified homeless man on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami on Saturday.
Rudy Eugene, 31, (pictured above) was shot and killed after a Miami police officer was flagged down by a bicyclist who happened upon the gory scene. Eugene continued to eat the man’s face even after being shot once in the chest. He reportedly growled like an animal as he swallowed pieces of flesh.

Boxer Paul Williams paralyzed fall in Georgia crash

Boxer Paul Williams was paralyzed Sunday after being involved in a motorcycle crash in the Atlanta suburbs and doctors said it is unlikely he will continue his career, his manager said Monday.
"From the waist down, he has absolutely no movement. He's in very good spirits, though," George Peterson told The Associated Press from his home in Aiken, S.C. "He still believes he's going to fight again."
Williams, 30, severed his spinal cord after falling on his back and head when he was thrown from his motorcycle Sunday morning in Marietta, Ga., Peterson said. Williams has been listed in serious but stable condition on Monday at an undisclosed hospital, Peterson said.
The crash happened Sunday morning in Marietta after Williams tried to avoid another car in the next lane that was negotiating a curve and then had to maneuver to avoid an oncoming car. Williams was in the area to attend his brother's wedding Sunday afternoon, Peterson said.

Um, and, I don't want to obviously desecrate or disrespect memory of anyone that's fallen, and obviously there are individual circumstances in which there is genuine, tremendous heroism: hail of gunfire, rescuing fellow soldiers and things like that. But it seems to me that we marshal this word in a way that is problematic. But maybe I'm wrong about that.

Google's search advertising rates declined more sharply than expected during the first quarter and the company increased payouts to partners.

Google's plans to split its stock and to create a special class of non-voting shares drew some criticism from corporate governance advocates. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Saturday that Bud had degenerated to a remnant low. It was expected to dissipate within the next day or say.

Maximum sustained winds had weakened significantly and were near 30 mph (48 kph) as the storm hovered about 15 miles (24 kilometers) off the coast of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.

Forecasters say the storm could still drop another inch or two of rain along Mexico's southwestern coast.

The Golden Gate Bridge, service on 75 years

On May 27, 1937, the public for the first time could drive, walk, or bicycle directly from San Francisco to Marin County in the north. Now, 110,000 cars pass over the bridge a day.

It's one of the wonders of the world, and one of the most photographed things on the planet. And this Sunday, the Golden Gate Bridge turns 75.

While New York may have dozens of world-famous landmarks, and Paris is, well, Paris, San Francisco -- a great city in its own right -- may be best known for its outstanding red bridge, a masterpiece of workmanship that connects the city to its northern neighbor, Marin County.

In the late 1800s, the only way to cross the Golden Gate was by ferry, and those who ran the local vessels were among the region's elite. But starting in the late 1860s, there began to be calls for a bridge. And in 1872, railroad tycoon Charles Crocker told the Marin County Board of Supervisors that plans and cost estimates had been prepared for a suspension bridge that would span the strait and that could carry passengers and rail cars.

The die was cast. In 1916, ten years after the devastating earthquake that leveled San Francisco, San Francisco Call Bulletin editor James Wilkins publicly proposed a design for a bridge crossing the strait. But World War I was on, and the public's attention was elsewhere, according to a history of the bridge put together by the Golden Gate Bridge Highway & Transportation District.

On May 23, 1923, California's legislature passed the Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District Act of California. This enabled the creation of new district that would build what eventually came to be known as the Golden Gate Bridge. And on December 9, 1929, less than two months after the start of the Great Depression, twin dedication ceremonies were held, one in San Francisco, and one in Marin, to mark the commencement of borings for the new bridge tower piers. As chief engineer Joseph Strauss put it at the time, "This is a day of big projects, and the building of the Golden Gate Bridge ranks among the biggest."

The pace of building such a project is slow, of course, and it took until 1930 for the U.S. War Department to finally issue a permit for the construction of the bridge. It would have a 4,200-foot main span, and vertical clearances of 220 feet at its midspan and 210 feet at its sidespans, according to the bridge history document.

They had a fine team performance throughout the season as they were defeated on just five occasions in 16 matches and this team spirit shone out in their playoff performance as all but one of their six batsmen scored at least 24 runs as they set 162 for Delhi to chase. Will we see another fine team performance from Knight Riders to secure their first ever IPL title?

The sides have already met twice this season and they have a win apiece with both games being tight matches. The Knight Riders won the first game by five wickets as they reached 140 runs with just two balls remaining, while the Super Kings triumphed second time around on the last ball of the match. I feel that this game will also be a tight game and could go either way. In fact I think that it’ll be so close that I’m not confident of backing either side, but I do have a bet in mind. Gautam Gambhir has been the outstanding batsman for the Knight Riders this season and I see him relishing the pressure of this final and top scoring for Kolkata, so my money is on him in this IPL final.

KKR Vs CSK in IPL2012 Final

The grand finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2012) is just hours away now and speculations, match previews and experts’ analysis are pouring on.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) qualified in third consecutive IPL final beating Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) in ‘eliminator’ and second qualifier respectively. They produced extraordinary performances in both of these matches which hugely contrast their lethargic approach on the league stages, which led them on the brink of early elimination but Bangalore’s upset defeat in the hands of Deccan Chargers (DC) proved a lifeline for Chennai.

Chennai didn’t look back since then and bashed Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils to make their way into the grand finale and proved that they have the “X-Factor” for the big occasion.

History and the recent momentum of the Chennai Super Kings definitely points toward CSK’s victory that would not only seal a hat-trick of triumphs, but would also end a fairytale script – one that saw them in a precarious position, banking on other results for qualification into the play-offs. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will definitely rely upon their lethal spin attack led by the second top wicket-taker in this season, Sunil Narine, is tailor-made for this track. Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been selling air tickets at its website since May 6, 2010 as a white label arrangement with a backend content provider. However, now IRCTC has launched air ticketing website on its own since May 7, 2012. This initiative has been taken to improve customer satisfaction and provide a seamless passenger movement over various modes of transport. IRCTC has developed in house air ticketing module for booking tickets for domestic and international airlines through website irctc.co.in and railtourismindia.com.

IRCTC now has directly entered into agreement with the major airlines and the low cost carries in the country like Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher, Spicejet, Indigo and Go Air. Initially, the customer will be able to book tickets for these airlines for domestic travel and later the international airlines for international travel.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways, Shri Bharatsinh Solanki in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.

The adult film actress who is her own living porn empire slammed into the wrong kind of hard pole this morning as Jenna Jameson was involved in a single car accident when her ride struck a light pole.

Sources with TMZ say that Jameson showed signs of possibly being intoxicated and that cops on the scene initiated a field sobriety test. Jenna was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI.

Jenna did suffer minor injuries at the crash but refused any medical treatment. She has since been released from custody.

Post the success of "Dabangg", Sonakshi Sinha maintained a low profile and stayed away from media glare. She says it was not intentional as she was working non-stop during that period.

"It was not intentional. I don't think anything that I do is intentional...It is just a coincidence as some films got delayed due to whatever reasons," Sonakshi told reporters here, adding that her second release "Rowdy Rathore" is coming before time.

"In fact, 'Rowdy Rathore' is releasing early...I have no complaints that I was not seen on screen for one-and-half years as I was busy shooting for all the films that I signed, doing advertisements and shows. So I have been working non-stop. Workwise it has been a good year-and-half for me," she added.

"Rowdy Rathore", directed by Prabhu Deva, will see Sonakshi romancing Akshay Kumar. It hits the screens June 1.

The 24-year-old has five major films in her kitty right now. Sonakshi said: "I feel I am blessed. I love what I do and I look forward to doing that every single day. If I have one-two day gap in between, I think what to do? I feel I am lucky-I am doing 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2', 'Joker', 'Dabangg 2', 'Son Of Sardar' and 'Lootera'." Acting happened by chance to her.

"I thought I will never do any movies. I did not know that I would end up doing movies. I feel it is all due to destiny, I don't think there is anything else. I was studying fashion and was almost on the verge of becoming a designer, but acting happened by chance to me. But when a film like 'Dabangg' is offered to you, you can't say no," she said.

The actress gives credit to her "Dabangg" co-star Salman Khan for encouraging her to become an actress.

"The credit absolutely goes to Salman. He always encouraged me. When I was studying fashion, at that time he used to tell me leave all this and become an actress. Star India’s and Aamir Khan’s much awaited show, Satyamev Jayate, was launched on May 6 in the 11am Sunday slot. The show was shrouded in mystery even after a teaser press conference and launch promos, and it was finally launched and telecast across nine channels including Doordarshan – a first-of-its-kind experiment. Also, it was dubbed in three southern languages.

Now, with the first ratings of the show coming out, it’s time to analyse whether the show has managed to really touch India’s heart. After the first two episodes, which focused on female foeticide and child sexual abuse, there has been impact, says the channel.

“The Madhya Pradesh government terminated the licences of 64 maternity clinics in Bhopal, while in Rajasthan, the licences of five sonography clinics in Jaipur were suspended. The Rajasthan Chief Justice has also okayed the setting up of a fastrack court for settling the sting operation cases showcased in the first episode, which recorded an overall 4.1 Television Rating (TVR),” says an official from the channel.

“The second episode too has had similar impact, with victims of child sexual abuse coming out on public forums like radios and the online media, to talk about the exploitation they faced. The NGO Childline has got thousands of calls from people reaching out to them,” adds the official.

With the way it’s progressing, it seems that the show is choosing topics carefully, picking hard-hitting issues which affect people’s lives. While it remains to be seen whether the show will be able to sustain the emotions it has generated, the first two episodes did dominate the social media space immediately after their telecast.

Jagan appears before CBI team amid tight security

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here Friday began questioning YSR Congress Party leader Y.S.

Jaganmohan Reddy in the illegal assets case amid speculations that he would be arrested.

Jagan, as the young leader is popularly known, reached Dilkusha Guest House, the camp office of the CBI, amid tight security at 10.30 a.m. A team of CBI officials led by joint director V.V. Lakshminarayana began questioning him.

Jagan was seen entering the guest house with a smile on his face and greeting the officials with folded hands. He was accompanied by Alla Nani, the Congress legislator from Eluru, and some close aides.

The usually busy Raj Bhavan Road, where the guest house is located, has been sealed by police.

Hyderabad is virtually under police siege with deployment of forces at several places to avert any law and order problems in the event of Jagan's arrest. Prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more people have been imposed in the city and other parts of the state.

Dozens of Jagan supporters were arrested by the police in various districts since Thursday night as they were heading for the state capital.

The results will also be available on mobile phones via SMS.

Marksheet would be given to students after eight days of declaration of the results on internet.

The newspaper will be home delivered and available in stores on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays only. The Web site, meanwhile, will increase its online news-gathering efforts “24 hours a day.”

Later in the day, three Alabama papers were similarly restructured: The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times and The Press-Register of Mobile. They will become part of the newly formed Alabama Media Group and will also print only three days a week. The announcement of the changes said there would a reduction in the work force, but did not specify details.

Like the Times-Picayune, they are operated by Newhouse Newspapers, part of Advance Publications. Among the other newspapers owned by Newhouse are The Plain Dealer of Cleveland, The Star-Ledger of Newark and The Oregonian.

The moves announced for the New Orleans and Alabama newspapers were pitched as needed adjustments to the way news is delivered and consumed by the public. Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury Thursday attacked the central government for a sharp hike in petrol prices, saying it would hit the common man.

"The unexpected hike in petrol prices is not justified at a time when the international prices of crude oil are falling," he said here.

Jamia declares B.Ed result hours after exam

New Delhi: The Jamia Millia Islamia Thursday declared the results of its Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) course a few hours after the exam got over, leaving the students thrilled.

“We were able to declare the final results of our B.Ed. annual examinations on the same day on which the final paper was held today i.e. 10 May 2012,” said a statement issued by the 92-year-old university.

“The paper ended at 1 p.m. and by 5 p.m. the results were declared… the students were thrilled to know that their results were out so quickly,” added the statement.

According to Jamia, the B.Ed. course is one of the most sought after programmes in the varsity.

The White Guy With Guitar strikes again! Looks like that stereotypical streak on "American Idol" isn't being broken any time soon. Whatever else you might say about P-squared (and I fully expect you to in the comments section), the ladies seem to love him. He's got a radio-ready sound -- especially with his Mumford & Sons-esque winner's song, "Home" -- and he probably has the greatest chance of making an impact on the charts, as so many previous "American Idol" winners have failed to do.

Did he have the best vocals, an impressive range or the ability to work the stage? No. But that doesn't preclude him from being a successful artist, I suppose. He can at least play his own instruments and write his own songs, and he's had a firm grasp on his identity all season long, which certainly differentiated him from raw and malleable runner-up Jessica Sanchez. He's not the surprising choice, but perhaps he's the most logical choice, since "Idol" has always been a popularity contest more than a talent competition.

Both finalists have the talent (or at least the "right sound") needed to have successful careers, although I'll be interested to see how Phillip does under Jimmy Iovine, since he's seemed so anti-establishment, in terms of resisting the image and vocal makeovers the producers have been pushing on the contestants all season long. I actually think he might have benefited from escaping the show's gravitational pull if he hopes to be an original and distinctive artist (and Jessica probably could've used Jimmy's hand-holding), but time will tell.

Yahoo has taken away the search results page, the intermediate step where a search engine makes most of its money, in order to get the user straight to where she's going. Axis is a gamble to redefine search. Unfortunately, Yahoo lost the bet.

On paper, Yahoo played Axis just right. It skipped trying to compete with the dominant desktop browsers, instead offering a plug-in that works on all of them. That enables Axis users to extend their browsing habits to the Axis apps for iPad and iPhone, which is much less settled territory. Mobile and tablet browsing is the next frontier, and Yahoo is wise to focus the next stage of its business there.

Axis tries to reinvent search by getting rid of the results page. When you search, it displays a bar next to the page you're on with little previews of the sites it finds. This is supposed to be faster and more convenient, since the user can just look for the right preview, tap it once and load the page.

Phillip Philips won “American Idol’s” Season 11, but he admitted to Access Hollywood on Thursday that there were times during the competition that he thought of leaving the show.

“Yeah, there was a time or two,” he told Access-Hollywood.com’s Laura Salt man of his thoughts about quitting due to his kidney situation. “But, I had great doctors and loving family and friends and just people who also help out with the show, just help you out, so it was good to have those people around to keep you in and keep you going.”

The 21-year-old revealed he’s been having trouble with kidney stones for about a year, and a stent was put in around the time the live performances started on Season 11 of “Idol.”

“I have to get all that fixed and what not,” Phillip told Laura, who was exclusive with the star as he travel led to Access Hollywood on Thursday.

The young man admitted he was in a little bit of pain from kidney stones during the two-night finale on FOX, but the night of his win, “was actually, a really good day,” he said.

Phillip had additional help from his girlfriend, who is involved in the medical field.

It’s a mystery that haunted New York – and gripped the country – and now Pedro Hernandez, 51, has confessed to choking the little boy in 1979 and he was charged with the slaying of Etan, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

Staten Island's Fleet Week Celebration kicks off tomorrow and continues through next Wednesday in Stapleton, with highlights including the Annual Splash Music Festival, the display of the National 9/11 Flag and the display of military ships at The Sullivans Pier.

Located at the former Homeport site in Stapleton, The Sullivans Pier was named in 1997 for the USS The Sullivans, a guided missile destroyer that was commissioned there. The name honors the five "Fighting Sullivan" brothers who died during World War II.

This year's Fleet Week Celebration welcomes the 2012 Operation Sail Parade of Sail and U.S. Navy Parade of Ships.

Magnificent military ships representing the U.S. Navy and coalition navies from countries around the world are coming together to honor and celebrate the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the penning of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

At the pier, free tours of the ships will be offered Thursday through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The National 9/11 Flag will be on display at the pier Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m.

Petrol price hike

Government is all set to face a united Opposition onslaught on petrol price hike and price spiral as efforts are on to forge a larger political consensus for a Bharat bandh on the issue on May 31.

While the NDA has given a Bharat Bandh call for the day, the Left parties have decided to observe an 'All India Protest Day' on May 31 that will include strikes, picketing, demonstrations, rasta roko and rallies against the hike.

Sources in the Opposition camp said that efforts are also on in rope in the UPA allies like Trinamool Congress and DMK, who have opposed the fuel price hike yesterday.

JD-U president Sharad Yadav has also talked to Left parties and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in this regard, while attempt is on to take BJD and AIADMK also on board for the May 31 agitations, the sources said. Samajwadi Party is supporting the UPA government from outside.

A leader from the Opposition speaking on the condition of anonymity said that the attempt is to re-enact a scenario of July 5, 2010 Bharat bandh, when opposition parties from north and south with conflicting ideologies like that of BJP and Left had coordinated their agitations to oppose the fuel price hike.

Rejecting government's argument that the hike in petrol prices has been done by petroleum companies as the pricing of petrol stands deregulated, Yadav said, "This is an eyewash... We (NDA) are going to observe a Bharat bandh on May 31."

In a press statement, the Left parties, CPI-M, CPI, RSP and All India Forward Bloc said that the Left parties strongly condemn the steep increase in the price of petrol.
