Wimbledon 2012: Maria Sharapova v Anastasia Rodionova - live!,tennis today news

First set: *Sharapova 5-1 Rodionova
The stunned Centre Court crowd are trying their best to buoy up Rodionova. And it works. Rodionova gets to 40-30, her first game point, although two quick points later it's set point Sharapova. The Russian blinks, and it's deuce. Advantage Rodionova. Deuce.

Advantage Rodionova. Deuce. Advantage Sharapova. Deuce.

Advantage Rodionova. Deuce. Advantage Sharapova. Deuce. Advantage Rodionova. Game Rodionova! That probably took as long as the other five games combined.

First set: Sharapova 5-0 Rodionova*
Wait, Sharapova is human after all. The Russian sends a forehand long at 15-0, and lets up again at 40-15, but Rodionova then scoops a backhand long as Sharapova holds to 30. 5-0 in 14 minutes. Will I still get paid for this? "Motorbiking to work this morning, I spotted a hoarding of La Sharapova advertising Evian," chirps Gary Naylor. "Just for a moment, I thought it was her in person, but even she's not 12 foot tall is she? I live only a couple of miles or so from the AELTC, but I've never seen a player in Tooting during 27 Championships - I wonder why?" The way she's playing, Sharapova probably feels about 20 foot tall right now.

First set: *Sharapova 4-0 Rodionova
Sharapova takes the first point with a vicious forehand drive volley. Then it's a blistering backhand return winner. Rodionova rolls her eyes, and before she knows it it's 0-40, three break points. And she flunks a forehand into the net. There's the double break. This is brutal.

First set: Sharapova 3-0 Rodionova*
Um, I'm already running out of ways to say this. Sharapova is completely dominant and holds to love. She's conceded just the one point in six minutes. At this rate, the Centre Court patrons will be off having their tea and sandwiches quicker than you can say "double bagel".

First set: *Sharapova 2-0 Rodionova
Rodionova can't buy a point. 0-15, 0-30, 0-40, three break points. But look, Sharapova nets! 15-40. But Rodionova responds in kind, slapping a tame forehand into the net. Exasperated, the Australian raises her arms to the skies.

First set: Sharapova 1-0 Rodionova* (*denotes next server)
Sharapova opted not to play a warm-up tournament on grass following her French Open win, not that you'd know the way she starts here. 15-0, 30-0, 40-0, game. In less than a minute. Though Rodionova helps by throwing in a mixture of unforced errors. Already she's struggling with the depth and power of Sharapova's shots.

It's sunny! Enjoy it while it lasts. According to the Wimbledon weather man it'll be raining by tomorrow.

Tok, tok, tok, they're on court and warming up. This is usually the time when I'd describe the players' garish outfits. But because it's Wimbledon, of course they're wearing white. Though Sharapova does have a flash of yellow on her straps. Rodionova won the toss and has chosen to receive.

Pre-match stat attack. We've got some new stats for you this year, courtesy of IBM. They've been looking at the keys to this match, which you can access via their SlamTracker.

Pre-match musings. Sharapova's thoughts on switching from the red clay of Roland Garros to the green grass of Wimbledon: "I think it's the toughest back-to-back grand slam-wise, without a doubt. Especially if you're coming off a French Open win, or a final, it's the toughest turnaround. As much as you want to celebrate and enjoy it, you come here and it's like a whole new ball game. But I think that's the beauty of tennis, there's so much out there to achieve. It always seems like it's back to back, so that's nothing really new."

Venus Williams is out. The five-times champion looked a shadow of her former self in a 6-1, 6-3 defeat to Elena Vesnina. Her last Wimbledon appearance? Possibly. Though she will be back for the Olympics later this summer. Xan has more in his blog.

Afternoon all. OK, OK, so England are out of Euro 2012. But there's a tennis tournament going on too, you know. And why dwell on another England quarter-final defeat on penalties, when you can look forward to another Andy Murray semi-final defeat to Rafael Nadal?

But I'm getting ahead of myself. After Novak Djokovic's straightforward win over Juan Carlos Ferrero, it's now Maria Sharapova's turn to lay down a marker on the pristine Centre Court. Fresh from claiming a maiden French Open title, completing a career grand slam and regaining the world No1 ranking, Sharapova is looking to win Wimbledon for the first time since stunning Serena Williams in the 2004 final. Here's a reminder of that, in case you're feeling nostalgic.

Sharapova's victim opponent today is the world No133, Anastasia Rodionova. They're two of the 26 "ovas" in the women's draw, my programme notes reliably inform me. And this is an all-Russian clash of sorts; Rodionova was born and grew up in Russia, although she now represents Australia.

Sharapova hasn't lost a set in her four previous encounters against Rodionova, while Rodionova is 0-18 against top-10 ranked opponents. So a straight-sets win it is, then.

Delhi airport attacks: Police arrest suspected handler of 26/11 attacks at Delhi airport

New Delhi: In the weeks after 26/11, as India tried to piece Mumbai back together, and connect the dots of ten terrorists who ravaged the city, taped conversations revealed how meticulously the cold-blooded terror attack was orchestrated.

There were ten men who sailed into Mumbai from Karachi on 26/11.

Operating in pairs, they moved to different landmarks. In 72 hours, 166 people were killed.

The terrorists took many of their cues from six handlers who were on the phone to them from Pakistan. One of them was of special interest to Indian intelligence officials.

Not just because he told the duo at Nariman House to let their victims know that "Yeh to sirf trailer hai, asal film baaki hai (this is just the trailer, the film has yet to start rolling)."

But because he used a smattering of Hindi words, rather than Urdu, in his lengthy tutorials.

He talked of "Prashasan" (administration), "Udharan" (example) and "yuvak" (youth). Indian intelligence officials believed this was a "local hand."

Today, they confirmed that he has been arrested.

Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Hamza alias Abu Jundal was arrested on June 21, the government confirmed. The Delhi police officially maintains that he was picked up from the Indira Gandhi International Airport - without explaining why he would risk travelling to India, or how he boarded a plane given that there's an Interpol red corner notice (the equivalent of an international arrest warrant) for him.

He belongs to the Beed district of Maharashtra, and is also wanted for the attacks on local trains in Mumbai in 2006 in which 180 people were killed.

Home Minister P Chidambaram did not confirm or deny whether reports that he was deported from Saudi Arabia are correct.

"The person who goes by the pseudonym of Abu Jindal has been apprehended and remanded to the custody of our law enforcement agencies," he said.

Police sources said Ansari has been arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act and the Passport Act.

He is, for India, a big breakthrough in the Mumbai 26/11 investigations.

Abu Hamza, who had 10 aliases, is named in both the case chargesheet and the dossier that India has handed to Pakistan.

This is the first time that investigating agencies have in their custody a man who was on the inside of the 26/11 plot.

Sources in the Delhi Police say that they were given vital information on Abu Hamza by another terrorist arrested last year in connection with the blast at Delhi's Jama Masjid in 2010.

The police was told that the 26/11 handler had stayed in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and was recruiting and raising funds for the Lashkar-e-Taiba in countries including Saudi Arabia.

Abu Hamza's voice samples will now be matched against the recordings. Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist arrested after the Mumbai 26/11 attacks, has mentioned Abu Hamza's role in court. He said that while he was training in Pakistan, it was the handler who taught Hindi to him and the others who executed the 26/11 attacks.

Ansari, who has trained at the Indian Technical Institute at Beed, is believed to have become a jihadi after the Gujarat riots.

Among the many terror plots that security agencies believe he played a role in, was also an alleged plot to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

He is alleged to have first joined the banned group SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India), then the Indian Mujahideen and later, the Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba.

Intelligence sources believe he has been a vital link between the Indian Mujahideen and the Lashkar.

Pakistan had said earlier that Abu Hamza had been arrested. It will now have to elaborate on how this man was then allegedly travelling to Saudi Arabia and other countries in recent months.

Amarnath Yatra : 12,000 pilgrims arrive for Amarnath Yatra

The first batch of Hindu pilgrims, consisting of 12,000 people from across the country arrived Sunday morning at the two base camps in Jammu and Kashmir for the Amarnath Yatra, even as the authorities stepped up the three tier security along the route of the pilgrimage.

The Yatra for the Himalayan Cave Shrine is scheduled to begin Monday.

Around 10,000 pilgrims reached the north Kashmir Baltal base camp in the morning.

Reports from the south Kashmir Pahalgam base camp said around 2,000 pilgrims were waiting there to start the 34-kilometre long trek to the Cave Shrine tomorrow.

Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the state police and the Army have stepped up efforts to provide the three-tier security cover to the Yatra.

While pilgrims take four days from the Pahalgam base camp to reach the cave, those using the Baltal route return back to the base camp after the 'darshan' the same day.

The trek from Baltal to the Cave Shrine is 14 kilometres long.

Situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet, the Amarnath Cave houses the 'Holy Lingam' an ice stalagmite structure believed to symbolise the powers of Lord Shiva.

The 'Lingam' waxes and wanes with the cycles of the moon till the end of the Yatra coinciding with the Hindu festival of 'Shravan Purnima'.

This year's Yatra will officially begin tomorrow and end on August 2.

State governor, N.N. Vohra who is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) visited the two base camps of the Yatra and various halting points en route to the Cave Shrine Saturday along with a team of state government officials.

The SASB has said the twin treks from Baltal and Pahalgam have been cleared for the passage of the pilgrims even though Vohra said the treks were still slippery at many places.

Scores of makeshift tea-stalls and food shops have been opened by local Muslims along the 85-kilometre long Srinagar-Baltal route for the pilgrims.

All the potters and ponywallahs assisting the passage of the pilgrims along both the Yatra treks are local Muslims who eagerly wait for the arrival of the Hindu pilgrims to earn their livelihood.

Dozens of other state government offices including medical department, public health engineering, public works, revenue etc are also detailed on Yatra duties to facilitate its smooth conduct.

Amarnath Yatra begins amid tight security from Jammu ,Annual Amarnath yatra begins (Lead)

Jammu, Sunday, June 24, 2012: The annual 46-day pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Baba Amarnathji started today from Jammu with first batch of yatris getting ready to proceed to forward base camps of Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal in Sonamarg.

The first batch consisting of 2,294 pilgrims was flagged off from Bagwati Nagar base-camp in Jammu around 0430

hours by the minister for tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora and political advisor to chief minister Devinder Rana.

First batch of pilgrims included 1,469 males, 476 females, 108 children and 241 sadhus, which left in 69 vehicles including 51 buses and 18 Light motor vehicles (LMVs) amid tight mobile security escort of CRPF.

Singing religious slogans,
hymns and prayers, the pilgrims with holy bandannas tied to their fore-heads left for the Valley amid joy and happiness for their onward journey to Amarnath.

“The yatra has begun this year. We pray for a peaceful yatra to all the pilgrims. A batch of pilgrims have been flagged off here marking the beginning of Amarnath yatra”, Jora told reporters here at base-camp.

A total of 3.5 lakh pilgrims have already been registered for the yatra which will conclude on August two on Raksha Bandhan.

Geared up to ensure an incident-free and peaceful pilgrimage,

CRPF has activated its security set-up and deployed 57 companies for security of the Yatra.

“As many as 57 security companies have been deployed for the yatra in Jammu and Kashmir,” a senior CRPF officer told PTI.

He said of these, 12 companies have been put on job for security of Amarnath yatra in Jammu region, while 45 companies have been deployed in the Valley for the yatra.

Abheek Anand (IITD-alum) sells company to Facebook

http://www.iitralumni.net/modules.php?name=Submit_News

Abheek Anand, 32, was feeling a tad sad during his Singapore Airlines flight from San Francisco, which landed here on Tuesday morning.

That's because the IIT-Delhi alumnus sold his startup Tagtile to Facebook last Friday after "nurturing it for a year like a baby".

"We were looking for a distribution network.

And Facebook was looking for a technology partner in the mobile space. What better network on the planet than Facebook," says Anand, still jet-lagged from an 18-hour flight, and clad in jeans and a check shirt.

Tagtile was bought by Facebook the same week the social networking company acquired mobile photo sharing service Instagram for a billion dollars.

Anand and his co-founder Soham Majumdar, an IIT-Kanpur alumnus, are joining Facebook as product manager and engineer, respectively, with millions in their bank accounts and coveted Facebook stock options ahead of its IPO.

Anand declined to disclose the amount of cash and stock Facebook paid them for the deal, but added it was the "in millions of dollars".

Tagtile was born in a Mediterranean restaurant, Fatoush, in San Francisco around Valentine's Day last year over a glass of beer.

"Abed, the restaurant owner, complained that customers from deal sites such as Groupon seldom visited the restaurant again.

They gave very few tips and there was no repeat buying," says Anand. "There was no way to gain knowledge about customers' preferences."

Anand, who hails from Sahibabad near Delhi, was working at Engine Yard, a cloud computing startup in the Bay Area. Son of a doctor couple, he was keen to "burn the boats" and start on his own. Ranchi-born Majumdar was working with Google as a software engineer in Mountain View, California.

"We both knew each other from the IIT gang in Bay Area. We both wanted to start up eagerly." Four angel investors came together to pool in about half-a-million dollars and Tagtile was born in March 2011.

Back in India, the parents of both founders were not too happy with Tagtile's birth. "We were never from a business family, so felt very anxious. But after they came out with their product in three months, we felt better," says Shibnath Majumdar, the father of 31-year-old Soham who is married to a Google engineer.

"We are all Facebook users. Now we feel very proud of them," adds Majumdar, who retired as a general manager at Steel Authority of India. Anand's mother Dr Reshma Anand said she was very tense in the first few months. "But at the back of my mind, I knew he would never be happy in a 'job'."

Tagtile's business model is different from that of large discount sites such as Groupon or LivingSocial. A Tagtile application can be downloaded on any Android or Apple phone. To merchants, Tagtile offers a white, cube-shaped device that can be plugged near the cashier's desk.

Once the phone of a user is brought near the plugged tile, it can 'tag' a purchase.

The app works like a Farmville game. More 'tags' unlock a goal, which can be "Buy 8 coffees and get one free" or "Get 6 meals and the seventh is on us".

Anand, who uses a Nokia 1280, besides an iPhone and a MacBook, claims to use a technology which he and Majumdar have patented.

It does not employ near field communication (NFC) technology that is typically used for similar applications. Instead, it's a mix of technologies which use a phone's gyroscope, radio and wireless signals to tag.

The Facebook product team got in touch with Tagtile at the end of February this year.

That's when Tagtile was on its way to receive about $1 million (Rs 5.2 crore) in venture capital funding. "The conversation was around partnership. Facebook wanted to get into local business monetisation and deals.

Slowly they got interested in buying us out," smiles Anand.

From the first conversation in February to buyout, the deal was done within three weeks.

"The rest was paperwork for the dissolution of the Tagtile brand and signing papers.

It concluded just two days before I boarded the flight to Delhi," says Anand, who will join Facebook in Palo Alto by next month.

In the journey from starting up to selling out, the Stanford and IIT networks came in handy to get references.

And there were low periods as well, especially when they were not getting any customers.

But then came a break in October 2011 when Tagtile won an award for Best Startup award in Under the Radar, a contest among 100-odd startups in the Valley. They celebrated with a glass of Malbec grape wine.

After their lawyer pestered them for a name for the company that would own the Tagtile brand, they registered it as Malbec Labs.

How does the Sahibabad boy feel now? "My sister has just delivered a baby. The million-dollar baby now is second preference for our family," says Anand, who is still single.

Saina Nehwal : wins Thailand Open title in Bangkok

Saina Nehwal
Saina Nehwal

Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal got a shot in the arm ahead of next month’s Olympics as she lifted the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold title after rallying to beat Thailand’s Ratchanok Inthanon in the final of the event in Bangkok today.

The 22-year-old world number five Indian beat Inthanon 19-21 21-15 21-10 at the C U Sport Complex in Bangkok for her second title of the year after the Swiss Open win in March.

The win will come as a massive boost to Saina’s confidence ahead of Olympics in July-August.

The top seeded Indian was scratchy to start with but drew from her experience and superb maneuvering at the net to beat her second-seeded 17-year-old rival.

Although it was a see-saw battle to start with, Inthanon’s energy and fabulous baseline play stood out. The smash winner, which is Saina’s stock shot, was coming out more frequently from the Thai’s racquet who seemed to revel amid the partisan crowd’s thunderous cheering.

Gangs Of Wasseypur : reviewa AND trailers

from...

http://www.naachgaana.com/2012/06/12/gangs-of-wasseypur-writer-faces-threat-to-life/

Even as Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious film Gangs of Wasseypur inches close to release, writer Syed Zeeshan Qadri finds himself in hot water. We hear he has been getting calls threatening him with life if he should ever return to Wasseypur.

Gangs of Wasseypur is set against the backdrop of Wasseypur, a small town near Dhanbad in Jharkhand, and revolves round the coal mafia in the region. Apparently, Qadri’s true-to-life story telling hasn’t gone down too well with some of the families involved and they are now out for revenge. As it is, the film is already in trouble with the residents of Wasseypur protesting the title as it could destroy their reputation.

A source close to Qadri told Mirror, “Syed is currently in Mumbai however he has spent his entire life in Wasseypur. Of late, he has been getting threat calls questioning his revealing so much about the coal mafia. The intensity of the threats is such that he has been dared to try and return to his hometown. There are many real-life characters in the film although Anurag maintains it’s a work of fiction.”

The source said, “Qadri is very scared right now. He has informed Anurag, who has asked him to lie low till the film’s release. Qadri’s family is still in his hometown but he cannot go back. Maybe, they will have to shift to Mumbai. For now, he is being very careful while answering his phone calls.”

It is learnt Syed has been barred from any communication with the media by the team of Gangs of Wasseypur.

True Blood Recap: just remind it ....

from.......

http://www.vulture.com/2012/06/true-blood-recap-season-5-premiere.html

All fantasy requires a little suspended disbelief, but patience is finite and requires an ordered universe with rules and boundaries. True Blood has taken your suspended disbelief and expelled it,

sent it to live with its nanna at a new school district before it stole all of her silver. For this reason, many of us stopped entrusting the writing staff of True Blood with our fragile faith, and quit watching the show around maenads or those rape panthers.

But I think that once a show crosses over beyond a certain point and just says, "Fuck it, there are werepanthers and they rape people,"

then it circles back. It's so off the rails that being off the rails becomes the point — you know, like riding an ATV while loaded on oxy. Thus, True Blood, season five.

To that end, we'll be recapping this episode via Believability Index, ordered by things that made us go from most to least "hmmm."

Eric Bangs His Sister

True, Nora isn't his real sister. They have the same maker, and we're probably just throwing "incest shock" into the mix this season to keep up with the Game of Throneses Jonses. Here's where things got Not Believable:

Nora stopped having sex with Eric because his cell phone rang, heralding Russel's return. Listen, Nora, it's not a Broadway show and you're not an indignant, mid-performance Hugh Jackman; you're having sex with Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård. Hit silent.

Reverend Steve Newlin's Declaration of Love
Sure, everybody wants to do Jason just a little. And yes, every HBO program is contractually obligated to feature a secretly gay guy who acts like a lunatic because of it.

It's almost kind of sweet how Steve only glamours Jason to invite him in and then allowed him free will from there, which is more than we can say for those rape panthers.

It's a bit like slipping a lady a mickey and then waiting till she's awake to inquire politely about whether she'd like to make love. It was, however, pretty believable when Jason rescinded his invite and Steve got sucked out of the house and into the night while screaming "I love youuuuu," because, been there.

Jessica's Underage Drinking Party
Jessica celebrates having run of Bill's house by throwing the lamest rager I've ever seen. There are, like,

four kids in Polos encouraging her to apply to college (what?) and then they all play Guitar Hero with a cop. This is a house party? Kid and Play are rolling over in their graves! (I assume they are dead.)

Scott Foley As a Desert Storm Veteran
I guess we're getting some kind of Jacob's Ladder subplot with Terry's former platoon, who have all mysteriously been involved in fires.

I'll be onboard if he turns out to be a lightning demon or the god Prometheus or a Mayan spirit invoked by Felicity's witchy roommate Meghan, but I just don't buy him as a Marine.

Alcide and Sookie Drink Lemonade
There are carbs in that.

The Wolf Pack Funeral
What a treat to see Dale Dickey of Winter's Bone lending a little menacing hill-person flavor to the show, but I have a hard time believing that anybody could summon any kind of depth of feeling for Marcus, let alone enough to eat his intestines.

That One Naked Werewolf's Butt
Are you serious with that butt? Unbelievable.

The Authority Has Some Pretty Sweet Equipment
Following the vampire-government-mythology of the show is like trying to play a board game with a small, cheating kid. I know you're just making this up as you go along, so I'm having a hard time INVESTING in the outcome. It's sad to have Nan Flannigan reduced to Hormel chili and exciting to hear that Russel is back, but I could do without the whole vampire-shadow-government thing. Like, really? They have helicopters and rocket launchers and silver casting nets? What's funding this kind of reckless defense spending? Not my tax dollars, I hope.

Tara's Turning
Last season when she had most of her neck blown off, I immediately started Googling "Rutina Wesley True Blood Contract." But I guess she's back and a vampire now, albeit maybe a "fucktarded" one. There's a tip for you: If you want to use the word retard in myriad variations, just do every other wildly offensive thing and it'll look pretty mild in comparison.

The Wal-Mart Sweat Suit
I guess making a cast member of True Blood wear anything designed for Deeply Unsexy People was a nice visual gag. But in real life, when you have a friend sleep over who won't fit into your minuscule trampy nightgowns, you give her some yoga pants and a roomy T-shirt.

Jessica's Performance of "Cherry Bomb"
Unconvincing.

Andy's Butt
I know that being in the cast of True Blood probably comes with a live-in P90X trainer and a copy of Orthorexia and You, but who among us has ever seen a rural law enforcement agent who didn't look like he was deep in the clutches of Hazelnut Coffeemate–induced Type II?

Lafayette's Hair
Usually when it comes to death, the citizens of Bon Temps are about as resilient as memory foam. But poor Lafayette's been hit hard by his boyfriend and his cousin, so we momentarily think that maybe he's eyeballing Sookie's lady Bic in the bath to end it all. Jokes on us, he was just deciding to shave his head. Disbelief: high. That razor couldn't take the downy left eyebrow of a Swedish baby, let alone decimate Lafayette's glorious Grace Jones in the span of one bath.

Why Do Any of You Have Jobs?

Seriously, if you can turn into an owl or clean at hyperspeed, you can rob a bank. Ask anybody who owns a bar. It sounds fun, but, man it's a lot of work.

All in all, this season looks promisingly ludicrous. Tune in next week for more vampire batshit insanity.

LA Kings : 1st Stanley Cup , Beat Devils 6-1..

http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/la-kings-beat-devils-claim-1st-stanley-cup-16546602#.T9fP2Zg069s

Dustin Brown practically snatched the Stanley Cup away from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, skating directly to center ice and thrusting it skyward.

Forgive his haste. The Los Angeles Kings' captain had only been waiting his whole life for this moment.

The Kings' long-suffering fans had been waiting nearly 45 years for somebody to lift that 36-pound silver trophy and remove the burden on a franchise that had never won an NHL title.

Brown, MVP goalie Jonathan Quick and the late-blooming Kings never flinched under all that weight.

After an unbelievable postseason run that ended in a triumphant flurry of blood, sweat and power-play goals in Game 6, they're all champions.

Jeff Carter and Trevor Lewis scored two goals apiece, Quick finished his Conn Smythe Trophy-winning performance with 17 saves, and the Kings beat the New Jersey Devils 6-1 Monday night, becoming the first eighth-seeded playoff team to win the Stanley Cup finals.

When Lewis scored into Martin Brodeur's empty net with 3:45 to play, the Kings' decades of tension and frustration finally turned into raw anticipation.

After 45 years of existence, one tumultuous regular season and two missed chances to clinch the Cup, the Kings knew they were about to be champions for the first time.

Even the sober, serious Quick got happy.

"You get that four-goal lead, you know, it's hard for it not to creep into your head a little bit," he said. "That's when you take a big, deep breath, relax a little bit, and know it's going to happen."

The Kings can exhale. They're reigning over the NHL for the first time.

Brown had a goal and two assists for Los Angeles, which ended its spectacular 16-4 postseason run in front of a crowd including several dozen Kings faithful who have been at rinkside since the team's birth in the Second Six expansion in 1967.

"Every single guy worked so hard for us this season," said defenseman Drew Doughty, who began the year as a contract holdout and finished with six points in the finals, including two assists in the clincher. "Everyone deserves this.

We got used to each other, we developed a chemistry, and we just went sailing from there."

After taking a 3-0 series lead and then losing two potential clinching games last week, the Kings finished ferociously at Staples Center just when the sixth-seeded Devils appeared capable of matching the biggest comeback in finals history.

One penalty abruptly changed the tone of the series. Brown, Carter and Lewis scored during a five-minute power play in the first period after Steve Bernier was ejected for boarding Rob Scuderi,

leaving the veteran defenseman in a pool of blood. Quick took it from there, finishing a star-making two months by allowing just seven goals in six finals games.

"You never know. You get to the dance, you never know what's going to happen," Brown said. "We calmed down after losing two.

It was the first time we had done that all playoffs, and we finally got off to a good start."

Rookie Adam Henrique ended Quick's shutout bid late in the second period after the Kings had built a 4-0 lead, but Lewis and Matt Greene added late goals.

Brodeur stopped 19 shots for the Eastern Conference champion Devils, just the third team to force a Game 6 in the finals after falling into an 0-3 hole.

news for Flag Day 2012 : Celebration , .....Differently each country

NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. (NNS) -- Commander, Submarine Group 2 spoke at a Flag Day celebration at Wheeler Middle School in North Stonington, Conn., June 14.

Nearly 100 Wheeler Middle School middle school students, faculty and community members attended the celebration to pay tribute to Flag Day.

"Flag Day is about who we are as Americans, a symbol of our country," said Rear Adm. Rick Breckenridge, commander, Submarine Group 2. "This day lets us take a moment to reflect on what it is to be good New Englanders, good American patriots. In each generation the men and women have stood up and answered the call to defend our flag."

During his speech, Breckenridge shared a story of how Francis Scott Key, an attorney, negotiated the exchange of prisoners while aboard a British troopship. Key witnessed the American flag being fired upon while it was flying gallantly over Fort McHenry.

"During the final battle even though every gun was drawn and fired on the flag, it still stood. The guns raged throughout the night and, as Key later described, the rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there," said Breckenridge.

The Italians outpaced their Balkan neighbours in the first half as the Azzurri were on the ascendency for the first 45 minutes of the game going into half time 1-0 up.

Antonio Cassano and Mario Baletolli had ample chances at the goal with Italy getting 11 total shots at goal but it was the top class free kick from the 33-year old midfield maestro, Andrea Pirlo in the 39th minute from the left wing that made all the deference in the middle.

It was entertaining bit of play by both the teams but Italy created more chances as Croats, even though had some terrify play led by captain Srna failed to get something substantial out of it.

So that is the end of the first half with Italy leading one goal to nil courtesy a moment of pure genius by 33-year old Andrea Pirlo.

29 min: Baletolli (Italy)fined by Strinic (Croatia).

28 min: Chance for Italy !!! Cassano darts into the area by a lovely turn of pace beating Schildenfeld, but his shot of goal is blocked before being taken by a perfectly timed tackle by Schildenfeld.

27 min: high ball in from Srna (Croatia) with corner, Perišic (Croatia) has an attempt on goal with the header, straight to Buffon though.

26 min: Giaccherini concedes a free kick in a dangerous position, Croat Captain Srna delivers from left wing, deflection from the wall, corner for the Balkans.

24 min: Balotelli (Italy) is penalised for a foul on Strinic (Croatia). Slight nudge on the back.

22 min: Jelavic (Croatia) is penalised for a foul on De Rossi (Italy). De Rossi (Italy) takes the free-kick.

20 minIvan Rakitic with the attack for the Croats, as he passes to Darijo Srna down the right. The winger's cross is well held at the near post by Gianluigi Buffon as Jelavic is inches away from connecting with another dangerous low cross,

19 min Good delivery by Perisic as Chiellin and Jelavic go down inside the area. Free kick to Italy.

18 minBaletolli wins a corner, Pirlo takes the kick, just a tad long, scrum in the middle but cleared eventually by the Croats

17 min: Cassano (Italy) concedes a free-kick for a foul on Schildenfeld (Croatia).

15 min Balotelli (Italy) has an effort on goal for the third time, this time on target but Croat goalie stops it well. Too much space for Baletolli.

14 min fantastic ball from Pirlo to Baletolli but the ball is cleared.

12 min Baletolli again goes for goal, blocked by Corluka. But bal laws still loose and Marchisio tried his luck as his drive goes narrowly over. Cassano was the man behind that move, stunning pass to find Baletolli inside the area.

11 min good run by Perišic as he sprints past Marchisio, but is stopped by Giaccherini.

9 min Free kick for Croatia, Chiellini fouls Jelavic.

8 min First Corner for Italy, Pirlo takes it, not strong, cleared away with ease.

6 minJelavic (Croatia) has an attempt on goal, weak one as he tried a bicycle kick. Buffon takes the ball.

5 min Mandžukic (Croatia) concedes a free-kick for a foul on Chiellini (Italy).

3 min Great opportunity for Italy, Baletolii has a shot on goal just wide.

Netherlands on the brink, Varela revives Portugal hopes

KHARKIV: Holland were left on the verge of exiting Euro 2012 at the group stage on Wednesday just two years after they looked set for a golden era when they reached the World Cup final. Two goals by German striker Mario Gomez proved enough as the Euro 2008 finalists saw off the Dutch 2-1 and left them pointless after two games of Group B.

The Dutch will have to beat Portugal in their final group game. That looks an even tougher task after a stunning strike by substitute Silvestre Varela three minutes from time gave them a 3-2 win over a resilient Danish side that had come back from 2-0 thanks to two Nicklas Bendtner headers. Germany lead the group on six points while the Danes and the Portuguese have three apiece.

Gomez struck twice in the first-half, both goals created by Bastien Schweinsteiger, to take his tally to three for the tournament and level with Russia’s Alan Dzagoev at the top of the scoring charts. Whilst Robin van Persie got one back in the second-half,

some relief for coach Bert van Marwijk whose loyalty to the Arsenal star had started to look foolhardy in the extreme after a woeful first-half, the Dutch still came up short. More worrying still ahead of a must win game was Arjen Robben’s show of petulance when he was replaced late on. He showed his disgust by walking off the opposite side of the pitch and sullenly walked round to the side of the dugout.

Added to the discontent publicly expressed by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Rafael van der Vaart it does not augur well for the lead-up to the Portugal clash, though, the coach tried to drum up some enthusiasm for the challenge. “We still have a chance to go through and we have to believe in it,” said van Marwijk defiantly.

“Thousands of fans have come here and we have to do well for them, we have to beat Portugal now to have a chance.” For his German counterpart Joachim Loew the ‘door was now open to the quarter-finals’ and he did not exactly give a ringing endorsement of Holland’s chances of getting the win they need at the very least.

“Holland created a few chances, which our defence dealt with, but I had the feeling Holland were physically dead after 60 minutes.” Portugal made life more difficult for themselves than they shoudl have done and would have been easy winners had not their start player and captain Cristiano Ronaldo not missed a hatful of chances. afp

AP News : Brief at 5:58 a.m. EDT

A crisis in 3 acts: Following the impact of a Greek exit from the euro to the US

Bankers, governments and investors are starting to prepare for Greece to stop using the euro as its currency, a move that could spread turmoil throughout the global financial system.

The worst-case scenario envisions governments defaulting on their debts, a run on European banks and a worldwide credit crunch reminiscent of the financial crisis in the fall of 2008.

A Greek election on Sunday will go a long way toward determining whether it happens. Syriza, a party opposed to the restrictions placed on Greece in exchange for a bailout from European neighbors, could do well.

In the meantime, banks and investors have sketched out the ripple effects if Greek were to leave the euro.

Egypt court dissolves Islamist-led parliament, deepening crisis with Muslim Brotherhood, army

CAIRO — Judges appointed by Hosni Mubarak dissolved the Islamist-dominated parliament Thursday and ruled his former prime minister eligible for the presidential runoff election this weekend — setting the stage for the military and remnants of the old regime to stay in power.

The politically charged rulings dealt a heavy blow to the fundamentalist Islamic Brotherhood, with one senior member calling the decisions a “full-fledged coup,” and the group vowed to rally the public against Ahmed Shafiq, the last prime minister to serve under Mubarak.

The decision by the Supreme Constitutional Court effectively erased the tenuous progress from Egypt’s troubled transition in the past year, leaving the country with no parliament and concentrating power even more firmly in the hands of the generals who took over from Mubarak.

Several hundred people gathered in Cairo’s Tahrir Square after the rulings to denounce the action and rally against Shafiq, the presidential candidate seen by critics as a symbol of Mubarak’s autocratic rule. But with no calls by the Brotherhood or other groups for massive demonstrations, the crowd did not grow.

Activists who engineered Egypt’s uprising have long suspected that the generals would try to cling to power, explaining that after 60 years as the nation’s single most dominant institution, the military would be reluctant to surrender its authority or leave its economic empire to civilian scrutiny.

The U.S. Open 2012 : Summer Stocks

Not only is Europe a disaster, but it is not even getting better, not growing. It has the look of "this is going to get worse before it gets better because this is the Apocalypse, and the Apocalypse gets worse by the day not better, and everyone involved might just as well be a 2-year-old" to it.

Add to that China's crouching banking Tiger problem that miraculously got bumped from its perch as reason number one the world was coming to an end. Does anyone remember this was the reason the global economy was doomed? This problem hardly got fixed, the rest of the world is a mess, so we figured you can't get hit by a bus if you have the flu, right?

Which again is not to say that stocks can't win, it's just that they are up against a lot. Small gains, a stroke or two under par, might look real good when all is said and done.

The Players

Tiger Woods, the best of his generation, maybe the best ever, has not won a Major now in several years, may have plateaued. Worse, may have let the competition catch up to his once untouchable abilities. Does he remind you a little of Google (GOOG)?

Bubba Watson, the innovator that has never had a lesson, coming off a series of professional and personal triumphs, can he deliver again? Bubba is clearly Apple (AAPL).

Phil Mickelson, it would be great to see this National Treasure win. But that's not the same thing as being a favorite in adverse circumstances. Phil, we are pulling for you but we know in our hearts your best days may be behind you. You are Ford (F), General Electric (GE), or maybe Cisco (CSCO).

Davis Love III, Steady. Boring. Microsoft (MSFT).

Sergio Garcia, does the Spaniard really even have a chance? Banco Santander (STD)

The 16th

The 16th has players seeing red, but this is where winners are made as well.

US Open golf player : Tiger roars / woods

With several big names struggling, Tiger Woods has roared into contention for a 15th major golf championship at the US Open.

While several big names struggled on the treacherous track, Woods fired a one-under-par 69 to be tied for second, with only countryman Michael Thompson between him and the top of the leaderboard.

The 27-year-old Thompson, in just his third major, jumped out to an early lead with a very impressive 66 - his round including seven birdies and just three bogeys.

Englishman Justin Rose, Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell and fellow Americans David Toms and Nick Watney joined Woods in the clubhouse at one-under.

Watney was still celebrating just the third albatross in US Open history after he holed out a five iron from 190 yards on the par-five 17th.

Australian major championship debutant Alistair Presnell carded an even-par 70 to be tied seventh, made even more impressive given the course average was almost 75.

Woods scored a clear points decision in the morning power group with Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson struggling to 76 and 78 respectively.

They weren't the only big names copping an Olympic hiding with world No.1 Luke Donald shooting 79 and No.2 and defending champion Rory McIlroy carding a 77.

Woods, a 14-time major champion, appeared calm and in control throughout his round as he looks for his first major since the 2008 US Open.

'I played well today. I felt like I had control of my game all day and just stuck to my game plan and executed my game plan,' Woods said.

While he was rarely flustered, he wasn't surprised others found the going tough.

'This golf course, it's so demanding and if you're off your game just a little bit, you're going to pay the price,' Woods added.

'And it's hard to make pars. This is one of those opens where it's just really hard to make birdies.

'This is not like it was last year. This is a tough one. This is tough to make birdies. You've got to really grind and, for me, I thought I hit the ball well today.'

Presnell opened his major championship career with a bogey but added just one more all day and cancelled them out with two nice birdies.

He came off the course very happy with his efforts.

'I'm absolutely thrilled with that,' Presnell said.

'Even if you had offered me a few more over par at the start of the round, I probably would have taken it.

'To do that on day one in my first major was terrific.'

John Senden was the next best of the Australians at two-over-par in a tie for 23rd.

It was tough going for the rest of the Aussie tilt.

Lava Xolo Android phone review : lava Xolo X900 launched in india | with good Fetures | Intel intel processor | android OS | ARM processor

Lava Xolo Android phone review : lava Xolo X900 launched in india | with good Fetures | Intel intel processor | android OS | ARM processor

Lava Xolo Android phone is a very special android phone coz it’s the first android phone in the world that runs on the intel processor, all other android phones run on a variant of ARM processor and I do a full review of this Lava Xolo Android phone.

Intel had been one of the earliest players in the mobile chip sphere with its Xscale line of processors for PDAs. Having sold the division to Marvell in 2006 , the company had for all practical purposes ditched

Then came their effort with Moorestown , based on the Lincroft system-on-a-chip with an Atom processor core, Langwell input / output Platform Controller Hub(I/O PCH),

and a Briertown Power Management IC. However due to the lack of proper power management , video encoding and decoding among others meant that the SoC was not feasible for deployment in a phone. What it did lead to is the Medfield processor.

This is a true x86 processor chip which will shipping in a number of devices by the end of 2012. Read on for our review on the first phone running Intel’s Medfield processor.

The Xolo X900 is absolutely identical to Intel’s Form Factor Reference Design (FFRD).

The phone is fairly solid and we didn’t really find anything lacking in the fit and finish of the device.

The design takes obvious cues from the iPhone , right from the chrome ring around the border to the general design direction among other things.

A headphone jack and power / standby key can be found at the top of the phone.

The front of the phone houses a 4” WSVGA (1024×600) screen which corresponds to about 300ppi.

The screen looks great and touch sensitivity is top notch as expected from a device in this category. A 1.3MP front facing is placed above the screen.

Below the screen are 4 capacitive touch buttons which are fairly responsive.

Euro cup 2012 : Germany - Netherlands 2:1

http://euro-2012news.com/review/1079/germany---netherlands-21

Germany has defeated one of its main competitors in fight for European Championship's gold, before even clearing the group.

The first half of German and Dutch showdown was somewhat reminiscent of the first half of the game earlier this day.

Germans, the same as Portuguese, underwent well-prepared attacks in the first minutes, but recovered calmness pretty fast and soon moved the game to competitor's half of the field. Germans even scored roughly at the same time.

On the 26th minute, the Dutch gave Schweinsteiger a huge space (and not for the last time! who plays like this?!).

Having got an opportunity for thoughtful attack, Bastian paused, saw Mario Gomez in advantageous position and accurately crossed to him.

Mario received the ball, turned around to the goal and made an accurate goal attempt - 0:1. On the 38th minute, Gomez stormed into the 'orange' penalty area from the right and shot a goal with powerful and accurate kick. And again no one prevented the forward from 'comfortable and cozy' attack. And again everything resulted in a goal. 0:2.

Only on the 73d minute, the Dutch managed to bring back intrigue to the game.

Van Persie's cannon ball from outside the box became the first goal for the Dutch on Euro-2012. The team got the second wind, however, massive attacks and open football didn't help them to come back from behind.

Mamata Banerjee : APJ Abdul Kalam is our first choice

Mamata Banerjee , APJ Abdul Kalam is our first choice

http://ibnlive.in.com/news/live-mamata-banerjee-is-still-an-ally-says-cong/266057-37-64.html

New Delhi: 6.50 pm: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee sticks to her choice, saying former APJ Abdul Kalam is the number one choice. She says she has not threatened anyone and does not intend to topple the UPA government, however, adds that if the UPA wants her to leave, she will. Defending the names proposed by her along with Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh, she says it is not a local election and the names recommended are of the stature of becoming the President.

6.15 pm Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi says Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is still an ally of the party.

5.35 pm Samajwadi Party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav hits out at the Congress saying the party’s approach to the presidential poll is wrong, it consulted smaller parties but not the bigger ones. He, however, says that the Samajwadi Party will talk to the Congress if it wants.

5:18 PM: Sonia Gandhi reaches 7 Race Course Road to meet Manmohan Singh.

5:00 PM: Sharad Pawar tells Sonia Gandhi that NCP would support any candidate put up by UPA.

4:41 PM: All CMs from Congress ruled states summoned to Delhi by party high command for a strategy meeting.

4:33 PM: I support Abdul Kalam as the candidate. Will be attending the NDA meeting tomorrow and hopefully Kalam will be the choice there: Subramanian Swamy.

4:30 PM: NCP leader Sharad Pawar meets Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

4:05 PM: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will boycott UPA meet on Friday, says she is ready to support APJ Abdul Kalam as the Presidential candidate.

4 PM: Trinamool Congress on Thursday said that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not break any decorum by making public the Congress’s choices for the Presidential poll on Wednesday. TMC MP Kunal Ghosh said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi did give the consent to Mamata to share the meeting information in the public.

“Mamata has not broken any decorum. Sonia gave consent to Mamata when she asked if she can tell the reporters what happened in the meeting. She also informed Sonia that she will tell the two names. There is also no change in the stand of Samajwadi Party,” Ghosh said.

3:40 PM: Congress core group meeting at 5:30 PM. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to meet Sonia Gandhi meet before Congress meet.

3:30 PM: UPA meeting at 11 AM on Friday. NDA, too, will meet on Friday

2:38 PM: Trinamool Congress chief and West bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has assured her that APJ Abdul Kalam remains his preferred candidate for the President’s post and that he will not change his stand. Mamata Banerjee is also unlikely to attend the UPA meeting on Friday.

The Samajwadi Party will hold its parliamentary board meeting on Thursday evening, sources said. They also said that Mamata Banerjee will meet Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday evening.

2:35 PM: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday spoke to former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.

2:17 PM: The Shiromani Akali Dal on Thursday said that they will support former president APJ Abdul Kalam’s candidature for the President’s post.

2:15 PM: Following her meeting with senior BJP leader LK Advani, AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday said that the entire exercise of selecting the candidate for the President’s post has been botched by the Congress. She said there has not been any consensus on a candidate.

2:05 PM: Senior BJP leader LK Advani on Thursday discussed the Presidential race with AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Advani said that the UPA has not been able to create a consensus within its allies. The NDA will meet on Friday to take a stock of the situation, he said.

“Never before the President polls were so clumsy. I discussed the issue of Presidential election with Jayalalithaa. The NDA will meet on Friday to discuss the situation. All the names figured in the discussion with Jayalalithaa,” he told reporters.

1:50 PM: Congress President Sonia Gandhi will meet NCP chief Sharad Pawar at 5 pm on Thursday to discuss the Presidential candidate.

1 PM: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that the UPA’s Presidential candidate will be announced soon. “The UPA and Congress have set up a President candidate. Now that candidate will be announced shortly,” Pranab said.

The Congress on Thursday took on the Trinamool Congress-Samajwadi Party combine and rejected their choices for the President’s post which in a major embarrassment to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi also included Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In the first official reaction after the Mamata Banerjee-Mulayam Singh Yadav snub to the Congress’s candidates, party spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi said, “Manmohan Singh will remain the Prime Minister till 2014.”

Dwivedi also said that the names of former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee and former President APJ Abdul Kalam proposed by Mamata and Mulayam were not acceptable to the Congress. He added that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Vice-President Hamid Ansari were the party’s preferred choices and would continue to remain so.

Lashing out at Mamata, Dwivedi said, “Names come up during discussions and there is sanctity to close door talks. Mamata should not have announced the details of the meeting in public.”

Mamata had met Sonia on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the possible candidates for the President and then told the media that Pranab Mukherjee and Hamid Ansari were the Congress candidates. Later on Wednesday evening she met Mulayam and put forward three names – Somnath Chatterjee, APJ Abdul Kalam and Manmohan Singh – while keeping quite on Pranab and Ansari. The inclusion of Manmohan’s name was seen a stinging indictment of the Congress-led UPA government.

The announcement by the TMC and Samajwadi Party chiefs stunned the Congress but now the party seems to be strategising to checkmate the Mamata-Mulayam duo by going in for Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature for the President’s post. Sonia Gandhi met Pranab on Thursday at her residence. She also met Defence Minister AK Antony, Home Minister P Chidambaram and DMK leader TR Baalu on Thursday.

Sources say that the Congress will name its candidate in within the next 24 hours. A Congress Core Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 5:30 pm.

The Congress sees the Mamata-Mulayam bonhomie as a way to create a political crisis where there can a mid-term Lok Sabha election within the next 12 months. While rejecting the Congress’s choice for the President, the duo did manage to sent out a strong message to the Congress leadership that “don’t take us for granted.”

While the Congress may not agree on Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature, the party may ask for another name for the President from Mamata and Mulayam. While the Congress will try to push for Pranab’s name, there is a possibility also that in the next 24 hours a compromise is reached outside the five names – Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former president APJ Abdul Kalam, and former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee – that have been doing the rounds.

Mulayam has reportedly no problem with Pranab’s candidature but he wants to create a political situation where there could be an election for the post. Mamata has a personal problem with Pranab and she is determined not to allow him to become the President.

Moreover, if the Pranab’s name is forced on Mamata, she is capable of walking out of the UPA.

As of now, Congress is playing a high risk game by pushing Pranab’s name. The numbers at the movement are such that there is a slight edge to the UPA and Pranab is the kind of person who may attract floating voters as the Samajwadi Party is unlikely to oppose him.

The Congress is also counting that apart from Mulayam, Mamata and BJP, no one wants an election.

Here is a look at where the parties stand on Pranab and Kalam’s candidature:

10, 98, 882: Total number of votes (5,49,408 of MPs and 5,49,474 of MLAs)

5,49,442: Minimum votes required for President to be elected

Support for Pranab

Congress + DMK + NCP + NC + RJD + RLD = 413558 votes (37.6 per cent)

Support for Kalam

BJP + AIADMK + BJD + TDP + SP + TMC = 462896 votes (42 per cent)

Magic Figure: 549442

Undecided parties

JDU + LEFT + BSP + Others = 222428 votes (20.4 per cent)

The big questions:

Is Mamata’s exit from the UPA inevitable?

Will Mamata quit UPA is Sonia insists on Pranab?

Will Kalam fight Pranab in a contest?

Will SP break ranks with Mamata and back UPA candidate?

earthquake on triggered ,4 aftershocks Southern California

earthquake on triggered ,4 aftershocks Southern California

An earthquake that triggered a series of aftershocks in Orange County on Wednesday night wasn't quite as strong as initially thought.

Originally reported as a magnitude 4.1 temblor that hit about 8:17 p.m. near Yorba Linda, the U.S. Geological Survey later downgraded it to a magnitude 4 quake.

No damage was immediately reported after the earthquake or the four aftershocks that followed, Orange County officials said. The aftershocks included two magnitude 2.4 temblors that were about two miles north and north-northwest of Yorba Linda, according to the USGS.

The quake was felt over a wide area of Los Angeles and Orange counties, and added a little extra excitement to the star-studded red-carpet opening of the new Cars Land at the Disneyland Resort.

Thousands of people -- celebrities, media and other invitation-only guests -- were gathered at Disney's California Adventure for an event celebrating the final piece of a $1.1-billion expansion of the Anaheim park.

"Earthquake!" @Mouseinfo tweeted. "I guess mother nature wanted to get into #carsland too."

Magnitude 4 : earthquake in Southern California

A preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-4 quake struck at 8:17 p.m.

Wednesday at a depth of about three miles.

It was centered eight miles northeast of Anaheim, where a red carpet premiere was under way
for the new Cars Land attraction at Disney's California Adventure. Several attendees tweeted that they felt it.

People reported feeling the quake 75 miles south of the epicenter in Encinitas and 50 miles to the east in Redlands.

Those who experienced it are describing it as a single quick, sharp jolt.

The quake, which triggered four aftershocks, initially was registered as a 4.1, but later was downgraded.

Police and fire departments in the area have not reported any injuries or serious damages.

Kim Kardashian : looking good

The photo of a woman's bare derriere that has gone viral on Twitter certainly looks like Kanye West's voluptuous gal pal Kim Kardashian,

but a star is claiming credit for those curves.

The nude woman in the picture has long brunette locks and appears to be sitting on the edge of a hotel bed eating a meal from a room service table.

Reps for West earlier this week denied he tweeted the image or that it had posted to his feed after rumors spread that the rapper's Twitter account had been hacked.

Close inspection of the Twitter photo reveals two indentations on the woman's lower back, which Miley says are the marks of two stud piercings.

"I took the photo, like, a couple years ago ... in London," Miley told TMZ. "Not Kanye West's hotel room."

When asked about the circumstances of the sultry pose, the adult film star said shrugging, "That's how I like to eat breakfast."

And later when a TMZ cameraman asked how she felt about the flurry of comparisons to Kardashian, Miley seemed almost offended.

"She's a very beautiful girl, but I think it's a silly comparison," she said. "Just because we both have brown hair and booties doesn't mean we look alike."

Miley went a step further, staking her claim to the nude photograph on Twitter.

"I'm not going 2 argue about whether that pic is me or not.. want proof? look at the back dimple piercings. kim k doesn't have those," Miley tweeted on Wednesday.

You might expect the petite actress would consider the burst of publicity a great boost for her career, but she said it's just the opposite.

"Since I quit doing adult (films) I was planning on becoming a school teacher," she said. "Now that this nude photo has leaked, my dreams are over."

Dallas : the new , its improve .......not.

After 21 years, "Dallas" returned to primetime Wednesday night on TNT just

as outlandish and over-the-top as ever. But for some TV critics, that's not a compliment.

The show is essentially picking up where it left off, with Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy reprising their roles as J.R. and Bobby Ewing, respectively. ( Linda Gray's Sue Ellen is back as well.)

In this new version, the older Ewings have spawned a new generation, with Josh Henderson playing the son of J.R., John Ross, and

"Desperate Housewives'"

Jesse Metcalfe portraying Bobby's adopted son Christopher. This time around, John Ross is the oil-hungry Ewing while Christopher plans to make use of alternative energy sources.

TNT stayed close to familiar territory with its updated version and the fight over Southfork is still going strong.

Yet while that may please returning fans, it could also make "Dallas" feel outdated, Salon points out in its review.

"The new 'Dallas' isn't even entertaining," and "could not feel more irrelevant," the review critiques. "To the best of its ability, the original 'Dallas' was modern, not to mention playful and salacious, whereas the new 'Dallas' is a flat reanimation of an out-of-date format."

Although USA Today also found "Dallas'" return to be wholly needless, the review did give kudos to Larry Hagman. Calling the return of the former characters "the only wise decision the show's re-creators [made]," the review adds that Hagman was, "as always ... in a class by himself." Too bad, the review noted, that he returned in an "embarrassing throwback" without anything fresh to offer.

The Hollywood Reporter was just unimpressed with TNT's "Dallas" revival, warning that even the nostalgic shouldn't revisit this long-running soap.

"This is pandering of the lowest kind," THR says in its review. "The writing is brutal and obvious, the acting is comical, and none of it is bettered by the directing ... 'Dallas' is terrible."

But the New York Post suggests that the familiar backstabbing and betrayal will win you over eventually, saying in its review that the new "Dallas" is "more ridiculous, campier, more preposterous and so totally over the top that it's skirting insanity," counting those as reasons to love the updated spin.

Entertainment Weekly also found the new "Dallas" to be "a rare example of an artistically successful TV-classic update." TNT's version has its flaws, but overall, it's still a "solidly constructed soap," "wooden dialogue, oily plot twists" and all.

TNT is owned by the parent company of CNN.
