USMNT vs. Antigua & Barbuda : Match Commentary

The United States put in a rather unimpressive performance in seeing off Antigua and Barbuda in their World Cup qualifying match in Tampa.

The hosts should have absolutely demolished the minnows in a Floridian downpour, but were held to an unconvincing 3-1 victory instead, losing Jose Torres to a severe-looking ankle injury in the process..

This team will need Fabian Johnson @ LB vs Guatemala on the road. I’d also like to see them go 4-4-2 in a match where 0-0 wouldn’t be the worst result ever and they might be better served counterattacking, esp. @ the start.

Gomez & Jozy would play well off one another, I think.

Other than that, there’s not much to learn in a match vs an inferior side in bad conditions. Anything less than a 7-0 shellacking wasn’t going to get attention. Mexico ‘struggled’ similarly vs an equally poor side.

Such is WC qualifying for major nations, where the opposition is playing literally it’s biggest match ever when it plays you.
